LEARN TO SKATE

OVERVIEW

The Jones Center Learn to Skate program follows the Learn to Skate USA curriculum to teach beginners through advanced and children to adults. Our classes are a great way to learn a new skill, make friends and have fun on the ice.

Levels

New skaters start at our "Basic 1" level and progress up to our highest level "Basic 6." Young skaters between the ages of 3-5 years old will start in our "Snowplow Sam" class that is designed for their age group. Adult skaters follow the same levels and have allotted times shown below.

In addition to our Learn to Skate classes, we also offer the following advanced skating classes:

  • Risings Stars: A 30-minute technique class focused on developing a well-rounded athlete followed by a 30-minute power class focusing on better edge quality and control, proper power development and stamina. Must have passed Learn to Skate Basic 6.

  • Power Class: For both hockey and figure skaters. The class will focus on edge quality and control, proper power development and stamina. Must have mastered forward and backward crossovers and be able to stop proficiently.

  • Hockey Academy: Before you can score a goal in hockey, you need to learn to skate! In our hockey program, skaters will learn how to be proficient and agile on the ice. Forward skating, backward skating, transitions, edge usage and stopping. Must successfully complete Learn to Skate Basic 4.
