LEARN TO SKATE

OVERVIEW

The Jones Center Skating School program follows the US Figure Skating curriculum to teach beginners through advanced and children to adults. Our classes are a great way to try a learn a new skill, make friends and have fun on the ice.

Levels

New skaters start at our "Basic 1" level and progress up to our highest level "Basic 6." Young skaters between the ages of 3-5 years old will start in our "Snowplow Sam" class that is designed for their age group. Adult skaters follow the same levels, and have allotted times shown below.

In addition to our Learn to Skate classes, we also offer the following advanced skating classes:

Hockey Academy - Before you can score a goal, you need to learn to skate. In the hockey program, skaters will learn how to be proficient and agile on the ice. These classes focus on the fundamental skating skills needed to be successful in hockey. Forward skating, backward skating, transitions, edge usage, stopping, etc… Hockey starts with skating skills!

Axel Academy - The Axel curriculum is the culmination of the Free Skate structure, promoting proper on and off-ice skill development and progression allowing skaters the opportunity to achieve the Axel jump. The Axel curriculum has three components, off-ice skills, on-ice skills and additional exercises, all of which build a foundation for the Axel jump.
